Every stage ESPN lists (league, qualifying, knockouts, playoffs). European seasons run across two years; MLS seasons are calendar years.
What it does not have
- Seasons are calendar years: 2024 holds the 2024 Clausura and the 2024 Apertura. ESPN files the two tournaments under inconsistent years (Clausura 2023 and every Clausura since sit under the year before), so each match is seasoned by its date.
- Each match carries its tournament and phase (Apertura Regular Season, Clausura Quarterfinals). The play-in and the liguilla are knockouts.
- No league table: ESPN publishes one tournament's table for a year that holds two, so get_standings is not offered for Liga MX.
- Lineups from 2003 (about half of 2002's matches). In 2007 goals and cards are counted from the match events and the rest of the box score is null.
- Shot locations from 2013; before that only goals and a few shots carry a location (about three a match). Cards in the match events from 2013.
- Sportsbook lines from 2017: a few matches in 2017 and about half in 2018 (Caesars), a quarter to a third in 2019 and 2020, nearly every match from 2021. About five to ten books a match from 2019 to 2024, one since 2025 in ESPN's feed. The Odds API adds opening and closing lines from July 2020: a median of 2 books a match in 2020 and 2021, 5 or 6 in 2022, 8 in 2023 and 2024, 7 or 8 since.
- In 26 of the 8,618 matches with events ESPN's goal events do not add up to the score (a goal listed twice or missing); the score is ESPN's final score.
Questions
Which Liga MX seasons are covered?
Results from 2001; lineups from 2003; shot locations from 2013; sportsbook lines from 2017. A season is a calendar year and holds both tournaments.
How do I ask for Liga MX data?
Every tool takes league: "ligamx". Seasons are calendar years (2025); the stage on each match names the tournament.
Why is there no league table?
ESPN publishes one tournament's table for a year that holds two. A single table for the year would mix them, so get_standings is not offered for Liga MX; list_games with the stage gives every result.
