Shot maps and xG for seven competitions, on one schema
Every located shot since 2012-13 with outcome, body part and our expected goals, joined to lineups, box scores and tables.
Shot-level soccer data is usually locked in a paid feed or scraped from a site that changes its markup.
The join to lineups, minutes and results is the work. The question is what you wanted to answer.
What to build
Chance creation and finishing
A club's xG for and against per match, next to goals, separates making chances from converting them, season by season.
Where a team shoots from
Zone totals (six-yard box, penalty area, outside the box) with conversion, and every shot's x/y for drawing the map.
Player rates
Goals, assists, shots and xG per 90 minutes, with minutes from the substitution record.
What it will not do
- Shot locations from 2012-13 (MLS: 2008-09 and from 2012); earlier matches have goals and substitutions (and cards from 2011-12).
- xG is a location model: it does not see defenders, the goalkeeper or the pass.
- No tracking data (distance covered, pressures, passes by location).
