Goals divided by shots: how often a team's or a player's shots go in.
Formula
conversion = goals / shotsConversion mixes two things: the quality of the chances and the finishing. Comparing goals with xG on the same shots pulls them apart. A striker scoring 20% of his shots with an xG per shot of 0.12 is finishing well; one scoring 20% on 0.20 per shot is converting what he should.
get_shot_map reports conversion per zone, so a team that lives in the six-yard box is not confused with one that finishes from distance.
The common mistake
Conversion swings hard in small samples. Fifteen shots can turn 10% into 25%, and over a full season most of the gap to xG closes.
